A Simpler Farebox for Flexibility & Affordability
With the growth of electronic fare systems and mobile payment technology, transit agencies are collecting less and less cash, making it harder to justify the added expense of electronic fare validation and registration. The Taurus 5 is a fully mechanical unit, with no electronics and is designed to meet these agencies’ needs.
The Taurus can also be a simpler, more affordable element of a comprehensive electronic fare management system when combined with fare transaction processor peripherals, such as the Futura 3B validator or the VT-7Pro handheld validator.
Several PIM customers have successfully combined the Taurus mechanical farebox with the Aries 5 electronic farebox into a hybrid system. For example, both Timmins and Thunder Bay use the Taurus on their smaller paratransit vehicles complemented by the VT7-Pro handheld validator, where cash volumes are very low and space requirements are limited.
Reliable & Secure
Cash is deposited through a single top slot, and falls into a viewing area or escrow, where the operator can validate the cash before releasing it to the secure cashbox below.
The Taurus 5 is designed with maintenance, security, and reliability in mind. The unit is manufactured in stainless steel and is an all-mechanical device, with very few moving parts, which makes it robust, requires minimal maintenance, and is designed for a long life of trouble-free operation.
The Taurus 5, with minimum moving components, is designed with a lifecycle expectancy of more than 10 years.
The Taurus 5 can be mounted directly on a handrail or by using PIM’s supplied pedestal, allowing flexibility of installation locations.
Innovative Cash Box Design
The Taurus 5 features a removable stainless steel cash box, which is securely locked inside the farebox and cannot be accessed unless fully inserted into the farebox or the vault receiver. This ensures that service personnel cannot access any cash.
PIM offers a large and smaller cash box, with capacities of about 5,000 cc (300 cu in) and about 3,300 cc (200 cu in), respectively.
