Payment in Motion’s team brings a combined experience of more than 60 years in the design and development of the Automated Fare Collection system, having created some of the most innovative systems in Canada. Our team is solely dedicated to the transit fare market and the projects that have and will be implemented in Canada.

Juan is Payment in Motion’s CEO. He brings over 35 years of experience in transit system implementation, system and device design, and development. His extensive knowledge of Automated Fare Collection systems and other ITS designs is a testament to his expertise. He designed an innovative data collection system in 1985, which remains widely used today, with over 20,000 units sold. His contributions to various projects across Canada, Mexico, and Latin America have been instrumental in advancing fare management and CAD/AVL systems.

Juan holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. He founded Payment in Motion Inc. in 2017 and previously served as CEO of BEA Transit Solutions, where he was also the Chief Architect and Systems Integration Manager since 2002. Juan has played a pivotal role in designing and specifying the architectures of the Automated Fare Collection systems developed by PIM, which have been successfully implemented in numerous Canadian cities. His leadership has been key in many installations by BEA Transit Solutions, ITS, and now PIM, including projects for Grande Prairie Transit in Alberta, Yarmouth in Nova Scotia, the City of Guelph, and the recent upgrade system in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Carlos is PIM’s Maintenance and Support Manager. He has been with PIM since 2017 and previously with BEA Transit Solutions since 2010, as Maintenance and Operations Manager. Carlos is based in Uxbridge, Ontario, and is responsible for the day-to-day support and maintenance, and is also in charge of coordinating the installation of equipment.

Carlos Guerra, PIM’s Maintenance and Support Manager, brings extensive skills in project management, SQL, and database management. He is an expert in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with electronic, mechanical, and software systems, as well as the use of automatic fare collection systems. Carlos, based in Uxbridge, Ontario, is responsible for the day-to-day support and maintenance, and also coordinates the installation of equipment. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the ITESO in Guadalajara, Mexico.

David is PIM’s senior software engineer, bringing nearly 20 years of expertise in revenue management systems. He joined PIM in 2017. His earlier experience includes working on automatic fare collection systems since 2006 as a software engineer at BEA Transit Solutions, and before that, at Advance Technology Research, where he developed coin and bill acceptor equipment for restaurants and entertainment machines. Additionally, at Zona Virtual and Redes Los Cabos, he managed the internet communication infrastructure. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ITESO University in 1993.

Edgar Hinojosa joined PIM as a Senior Software Engineer in 2024, bringing 18 years of experience in Automated Fare Collection Systems. Previously, Edgar was Senior Software Engineer in the automotive industry with Continental Automotive, developing embedded software for electronic control units.

Edgar has extensive experience in the automated fare collection industry. Edgar was also a Senior Software Engineer for Intelligent Transaction Systems (ITS), developing embedded software for fareboxes, turnstiles and validators.
